Course Description: This course covers mechanical transmission devices, including procedures for installation, removal, and maintenance.
Course Competencies: Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be competent to perform the following tasks:
· Perform correct coupling alignment procedures.
· Identify common and special couplings.
· Explain coupling alignment using the straight edge and feeler gauge method.
· Perform coupling alignment with four (4) different couplings.
· Perform coupling alignment on an electric motor and drive shaft.
· Demonstrate the correct procedure for aligning and maintaining V-belt and chain drives.
· Explain the components of V-bet drives and chain drives.
· Demonstrate proper alignment of V-belt drives and chain drives in the lab.
· Demonstrate the correct procedure in assembling and maintaining various power transmission drives.
· Demonstrate the proper alignment procedure for chain drives.
· Demonstrate the proper alignment for gear drives.
· Demonstrate the proper installation of a gear reduction unit.
· Demonstrate the ability to analyze the transmission components and to calculate output RPM.
· Demonstrate the correct procedure for bearing installation.
· Demonstrate the proper use of power and hand tools in repairing shop equipment.
· Demonstrate the correct and safe procedure for using various hand tools and power operated tools in the lab.
· Identify the correct tool to use on various power transmission devices.
