Industrial Safety Course Details


Lecture Hours/Week: 8 hrs per week for 4 weeks

Course Description: This course covers safety awareness and practices found in industry.

Course Competencies:  Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be competent to perform the following tasks:

·      State the Role of OSHA in Safety and Health.

  • State the objectives and functions of OSHA.
  • State the employees’ rights and responsibilities of safety and health.
  • State the employers’ rights and responsibilities regarding safety and health.
  • Describe and/or demonstrate appropriate industrial safety practices.
  • Describe and/or demonstrate appropriate industrial safety practices:
  • Explain the use of personal protective equipment.
  • Identify safety signs, tags, color codes and label requirements for toxic and hazardous substances.
  • Describe safe practices involving hand and power tools and machinery.
  • Explain safe materials handling practices.
  • Recognize electrical hazards.
  • State the causes of fire, prevention of fire and proper uses of different classes of fire extinguishers.
  • Explain good housekeeping practices.
  • Describe how to use ladders and scaffolds properly.
  • Discuss safe work practices including appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Describe how to prevent and respond to medical emergencies.
  • Recognize common job-related health hazards and list protective equipment used to avoid hazards.
  • List appropriate emergency treatment for injuries.
