Cherokee County 40/30

Cherokee County has asked SCC to be part of a community-wide effort to increase college attainment among residents.  This effort is similar to Spartanburg County's 40/30 intiative.  Dr. Garrison Walters, executive director of the SC Commission on Higher Education (CHE) is working with Cherokee County.  SCC's Cherokee County Campus will be a primary access point for college-bound students of all ages.

Exciting News!!  Thanks to the leadership of Dr. Berta Hopkins, Science Department Chair/RPT Program Director; Jenny Williams, Academic Director of Language and Humanities; and Marshall Evans, English Instructor, SCC will charter a chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

PTK is an international honor society for two-year college scholars.  It is the "sister" organization to Phi Beta Kappa.  Our local Beta Sigma Phi Chapter will hold its chartering ceremony on April 8, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Tracy Gaines Auditorium.

Did you know that SCC is a Military Friendly College

Our first Java with Jones breakfast meeting with business and community leaders will be Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 7:30 a.m. in the Commissioners' Dining Room.  All Commissioners and SCC Foundation Board Members are invited to attend.

Thank you for your service to our students and community.  Please don't hesitate to contact me at or
